INJURIES FATAL TO AGED PUMPER
William Brenneman was caught in wheel at the station.
Nickel Plate Man
William Brenneman, aged 60 years, a pumper employed by the Nickel
Plate railroad, died at 12:45 o'clock this afternoon at this home,
1006 Herman street, from injuries sustained at 10 o'clock Monday
morning when he was caught in a fly wheel of the engine at the
west yards pumping station.
The unfortunate man was oiling the engine when his coat sleeve
caught on an oil cup and he was thrown into the fly wheel. Before
the machinery could be stopped he was badly injured, several bones
having been broken, and the aged man was rendered unconscious.
With terrific force he was whirled about with the wheel and it is
considered miraculous that he was not instantly killed.
Surviving he leaves a wife and five children, Charles F, and Miss
Leeta Breeneman, Mrs. John Longley and Mrs. Edward Holmes, of this
city, and Mrs. Leroy Pettijohn of Indianapolis.
