HANCOCK, Myrtle Helms, 90, formerly of Vesta, Virginia, died Sunday evening, September 17, 2000 at R. J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital in Stuart. She had been a patient in the hospital's Skilled Care Unit for almost nine years. Born August 1, 1910 in Patrick County to the late Matthew B. and Rosa Thomas Helms, she was the widow of Henry F. Hancock. Mrs. Hancock also was preceded in death by four sisters, five brothers, and a son-in-law, Fred Underwood. She was a graduate of Central Academy. In addition to being a housewife and mother, she was a former postmaster at Vesta, taught school in Patrick County, was employed with the United Elastic Corporation, and was a member of Mountain View Methodist Church. Mrs. Hancock is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Fred (Jean) Gilley of Stuart, Mrs. William (Jerry) Harrell of Martinsville, Mrs. Ellis (Betty Jo) Ayers of Meadows of Dan, Mrs. Fred (Anne) Underwood of Walkertown, North Carolina, and Mrs. Rodger (Irene) Morrow of Kernersville, North Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lucinda Hancock of Olive Hill, Kentucky; eight grandsons, Jeffrey, Helms and Fred Gilley, Jr., Steve Ayers, Teddy Harrell, Todd, Drew and Neal Underwood; five granddaughters, Lisa Seiy, Belinda Doyle, Andrea Morrow, Regina McCarn and Nicole Lawson; and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Hancock will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Rev. Fred Gilley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery in Meadows of Dan. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Memorials may be made to the Vesta Rescue Squad.

Funeral services for William "Bunt" Savage, 73, who died Thursday at his home, 2357 Linden avenue, following three months' illness from a complication of diseases, will be held at 3:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Mader-Peoples funeral home with Rev. Paul N. Runk officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood. Mr. Savage was a native of Muskingum county and spent the greater part of his life in this city. He was a member of the First Church of Christ. Surviving are the widow of the home; one son, William Savage, Jr. and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Burley, both of this city. The body will remain at the funeral home until time for burial.
