MAN DROWNS AS CAR ROLLS INTO NEW LEXINGTON CREEK
A 32-year old father of five small children was drowned about 1 a.m.
Sunday when the auto in which he was a passenger overturned at a
sharp curve in New Lexington and rolled into Comley run. The driver
and another passenger were hurt. Robert Wallace Savage, an employe
of the Perry Distributing company at New Lexington and a lifelong
resident of the Perry county seat, was pinned in the water under the
car. Coroner A. J. Ball, who investigated the crash with New
Lexington Patrolman Dave Tharp, returned a verdict of accidental
drowning. The crash occurred at the intersection of Routes 13 and
37. Six other persons were hurt late Saturday and early Sunday in
two other traffic accidents in Perry county, while five autoists
were injured in a mishap near the Perry - Muskingum county line near
East Fultonham. Savage was a passenger in a car driven by William
Wollenberg. James Tracy was another passenger. Both reside at New
Lexington also. They were returning home from Somerset. Wollenberg
was taken in an ambulance from the Roberts funeral home in New
Lexington to good Samaritan hospital where he was admitted with
lacerations of the face. He also received treatment for exposure
suffered when he was immersed in the creek water. His condition
Sunday night was reported to be good. Tracy's injuries were minor.
Savage, a son of Robert Savage who is a guard at the Junction City
branch of Ohio penitentiary, also is survived by his wife, Violet;
four sons, Robert Michael, 8, David Eugene, 5, Tony Lee, 3, and
Robert Wallace, jr., 10 months.; a daughter Linda Louise, 6, four
sisters and his mother the former Anna Harris. Funeral services
will be held in St. Rose Catholic church at New Lexington at 9
Tuesday morning. Friends may call at the Chute funeral home at New
Lexington.
