DR. EDWARD LEROY LONGLEY (Age 80)
On Saturday, December 9, 2006, at his home after a brief illness, EDWARD L. LONGLEY of Olney, MD. Beloved husband of Sharon Longley; father of Nancy (Richard) Weichbrod of California, Suzanne Longley (Randall) Morton of Texas and Cynthia (Alan) Kehr of Monrovia, MD; stepfather of Jim Melton of College Park, MD and Timothy (Katie) Melton of Salisbury, MD; grandfather of Brett and Kevin Weichbrod, Emily and Lianne Kehr, Wesley and Ava Morton and Tiffany and Sophia Melton. Dr. Longley, an art education professor at the University of Maryland-College Park from 1953 to 1984, was a lifelong artist specializing in watercolors. He was a founder of the Olney Art Association and the recipient of numerous prestigious awards from various organizations over his prolific career. He served as Director of the Farquhar Gallery, Sandy Spring Museum and taught watercolor classes at Leisure World. He was a member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society, the Strathmore Art Center and the Maryland Federation of Art. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy. He leaves behind many devoted friends. Visitation will be held at THE MURIEL H. BARBER FUNERAL HOME, 21525 Laytonsville Rd., (Rte. 108), Laytonsville, MD on Wednesday, November 13 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service starting at 7:30 p.m. Services and interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or to JSSA Hospice, 6123 Montrose Rd., Rockville, MD 20852.
