Samuel Rankin McLure Jr. passed away Sunday afternoon, April 14, 2002, at the V.A. hospital in Houston. Funeral services will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Doug Raymer officiating. He was a long-time resident of Freeport, graduating from Freeport High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and saw action in France. After the war, he was employed by Freeport Sulphur Co. and Moore Electric in Freeport. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his son, Sammy Ray McLure and wife, Kathrine, of Richwood; daughter, Sheila Bernice Compton of Bandera; and five grandchildren: Christopher Dale Compton, James Andrew McLure, Monica Gene Powell, Rhonda Kimmitz and Doyle "Bubba" Kimmitz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velda Maddox McLure; son, Danny James McLure; parents, Samuel Rankin McLure Sr. and Lettie Mae Schaefer McLure; and sister, LaRue Epperson. Pallbearers will be Billie Mack Williams, Lou Eperspacher, John T. McLure III, Luke Powell, Anthony McLure and Christopher Compton. Arrangements by Lake-wood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson, Texas.

PRICE, William E., (""Bill"") 63, of Roanoke County went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 1,1998, at his home. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, a retired employee of General Electric with over 40 years of service and a member of Morgan's Baptist Church, Moneta. Surviving are his wife, Bessie (Bess) M. Price of Roanoke County; son, William Bruce Price of Houston, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth R. and Robbin Price of Roanoke; daughter, Jessica L. Martin of Buchanan; brother and sister-in-law, Owen A. and Betty Price of Salem; sisters, Lillian P. Myers and Lois P. Reid both of Blacksburg; sister-in-law, Jeanette Price of Christiansburg; also many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends that he loved dearly. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's North Chapel 3 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 1998, with the Rev. Richard C. (Rick) Mallory officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Dale Memorial Park, Fincastle, Va. with Military Rites by V.F.W. Post 1264. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Morgan's Baptist Church, P.O. Box 477, Moneta, Va., 24121 or Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Oakey's North Chapel.

Mildred M. Knowles, age 97, passed away in Napa on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006. She was born in Winfield, Kan. on Feb. 8, 1908, to Wylie and Orella Ross. She has been a resident of Napa since 1955, moving here from Vallejo. Mildred worked as a garment maker at Rough Rider for 18 years. She was a member of ROPE and the Church of Christ in Napa. She enjoyed playing the organ as a pastime. She was predeceased by her husband Lester in September of 1992. She is survived by her son, Larry L. Knowles of Carmichael and her nieces and nephews, Kenneth Furlow of Concord, Robert Collins of Wichita, Kan., Jayne Gorkin of Tacoma, Wash. and Jerry Ross. Friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St., Napa. Burial will follow at Tulocay Cemetery.
