Walter Anderson Byrd, 85, of Ooltewah, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8,
2005, after a short illness. He was a member of Ooltewah Methodist
Church and attended Ooltewah Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a
member of the Ooltewah Lodge 741 for more than 50 years. He was a
World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Walter and Mabel Hall Byrd, and a sister, Elizabeth Byrd.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Willena Mays Byrd; a
daughter, Allison Morgan, both of Ooltewah; and a cousin, Dr. George
Hall, of Atlanta. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10,
2005, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony DeYoung and
the Rev. Burl McMillan officiating. Interment will follow in
Ooltewah Cemetery. Condolences may be sent at www.heritagefh.com.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at
Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN
37421.

The marriage of Miss Thelma Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip
Brown, 1005 Main st., and Milton Sheppard, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A.
Sheppard, 672 Elm st., which was solemnized Tuesday, June 10, in a
Presbyterian church in Pittsburgh, Pa., comes with unusual interest.
Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard returned Monday from a wedding trip to Niagara
Falls and Buffalo, N.Y. The bride, who until recently was employed
as a clerk at the local S. S. Kresge store, is an attractive young
woman and has many friends. Mr. Sheppard is employed as wire chief
by the Ohio Bell Telephone Comany. Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard are
residing with the former's parents temporarily.

Military Services Planned Wednesday for Milton H. Sheppard
Military funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Glass
funeral home for Milton H. Sheppard, 53, of Granville, former resident
of Coshocton and a prominent member of old Battery F, who died Saturday
at 7 p.m. in his home of a heart attack. He had been in ill health for
the past three years. A veteran of World war I and II. Mr. Sheppard
served as a chief petty officer in the navy during the first war. In
1928 he joined Battery F, 134th field artillery, Ohio national guard,
and served with the unit as first sergeant, accompanying the battery
to Camp Shelby, Miss., when the 37th division was inducted into federal
service in 1940. In 1942 he was transferred out of the division and
served at Fort Bowie, Tex., Fort Sam Houston, Tex., and Camp Custer,
Mich., before receiving an honorable discharge at Fort Benjamin
Harrison, Ind., in 1944. He was born Oct. 7. 1895, at Philo, O., a
son of Len A. and Cora Longley Sheppard of Coshocton. On June 10, 1930
he was married to the former Thelma Mae Brown, who survives. He was
a member of the Grace Methodist church of Coshocton, and Ralph
Courtright post No. 65 American Legion. At one time he was employed
by the Ohio Bell Telephone Co. as a wire chief. Surviving besides
his wife and parents are one brother, Earl A. Sheppard of Coshocton,
two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Crago of Coshocton and Mrs. W. J. Gamble of
Silver Springs, Md. One sister preceded him in death. Rev. Sumner E.
