Irma Sigmon Knowles, 99, of Rocky Mount, formerly of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2007. She was the widow of Eslie J. Knowles. Born November 18, 1907, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Robert N. and Mary Ellen Via Sigmon. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Knowles was predeceased by all of her brothers; sisters; and her daughters, Shirley Laverne Knowles and Dorothy (Patse) Hosfeld. She was an avid genealogy researcher. Mrs. Knowles was a longtime member of Grandin Court Baptist Church. Surviving are her brothers-in-law, Fred Knowles and wife, Elise, of Boones Mill and Ralph Knowles and wife, Margaret, of Ridgeway; sister-in-law, Verna M. Knowles of Roanoke; son-in-law, Lloyd D. Hosfeld of Vinton; three grandsons, Michael Barry Jones, Jay Patrick McAllister and Michael William Jones; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Flowers are appreciated, but those preferring memorials in Irma's name, please consider Grandin Court Baptist Church, 2620 Brambleton Ave., Roanoke, VA 24015. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2007 at Oakey's North Chapel. The Rev. Kevin Meadows will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at Oakey's North Chapel, 362-1237.
