HARRIS, Stella Mae Knowles, 72, of Meadows of Dan, passed away
Tuesday evening, April 10, 2001 at the home of her daughter. She was
born May 12, 1928 in Patrick County, the daughter of the late David
Early Knowles and LouEmma Puckett Knowles. A brother, David E.
Knowles, Jr., also preceded her in death. She was a member of the
Concord Primitive Baptist Church since 1951. She is survived by her
husband of 54 years, G. Lester Harris; a daughter and son-in-law,
Connie Lynn and Jerry L. Webb; a son, Earlie Lee Harris; granddaughter,
Jennifer Webb Schall; grandsons, Stacy Matthew Webb, Luke Allen Harris
and Jon Tyler Harris; two great-grandsons, Dennis James "DJ" and Cory
Matthew Schall. Also surviving are her beloved family members, sister;
Kathleen Knowles Layman and her husband, Albert; brothers, Jack Wilson
and wife, Agnes, Roy Knowles (sister- in-law, Ann Knowles died Nov.
1999), Pat Knowles and wife, Barbara; also many loving nieces, nephews
and cousins. Northern Hospice-Cana Division and Good Samaritan Hospice
of Roanoke provided loving care. Her friends, family, flowers and
sunshine filled her days to the end. No additional memorials are
needed. Anyone wishing to contribute to the preservation of Concord
Primitive Baptist Church may do so. Treasurer is Barbara Knowles, 394
Dan River Road, Meadows of Dan, Va. 24120. Services will be conducted
at Concord Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Floyd South on Friday,
April 13, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Meadows of Dan
Baptist Church Cemetery. Following the burial, a lunch will be
provided at the Meadows of Dan Community Building (no formal calling
hours will be observed). The family home will be open for visitors
Thursday and after services Friday. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is in
charge of arrangements.

STELLA K. HARRIS
Stella Mae Knowles Harris, 72, of Meadows of Dan, died Tuesday,
April 10, 2001, at the home of her daughter. She was born May 12, 1928
in Patrick County, and was a daughter of the late David Early and
LouEmma Puckett Knowles. She was preceded in death by a brother,
David E. Knowles. She was a member of Concord Primitive Baptist
Church since 1951. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, G. Lester
Harris; one daughter, Connie Lynn Webb; one son, Earlie Lee Harris;
one sister, Kathleen Knowles Layman; three brothers, Jack Wilson,
Roy Knowles and Pat Knowles; three grandsons; two great-grandsons and
many nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral was held Friday at
Concord Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Floyd South officiated.
Burial was in the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Layman, Kenneth Knowles, Todd Schall, Doug
Layman, Tyler Harris and Richard Knowles. Memorial contributions
may be made to Concord Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Barbara Knowles,
394 Dan River Rd., Meadows of Dan, Va. 24120. Arrangements were by
Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

HUNTINGDON - Grace Ashby, 62, of Lobelville, formerly of Carroll
County, homemaker, died of heart failure Wednesday at St. Thomas
Hospital in Nashville. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Dilday
Funeral Home with burial in New Cross Cemetery. Mrs. Ashby, the
wife of Dillard Ashby, also leaves three daughters, Cynthia R. Ashby
of Arlington, and Kimberly G. Carter and Valerie L. Medley, both of
Christiana; three sons, Steven B. Ashby of Waverly, Timothy S. Ashby
of Lobelville and Matthew W. Ashby of Lexington, and seven
grandchildren.

Gibson in Ringwood, OK. She graduated from Ringwood High School in
1945. Lorena Mae married Sherman Stephens on August 1, 1945; they
had five children. She married Paul Wesley Smith on September 9,
1974. She worked at Memorial Hospital in Enid, OK from 1967 to 1969.
Lorena Mae moved to Okla. City in 1969, where she worked for Baptist
Retirement Center until she retired in 1995. She was Dietary Manager
when she retired. Ms. Smith graduated November 2, 1980 from
Moore-Norman Vo-Tech. Lorena Mae is survived by 1 son &
daughter-in-law, Gary & Charla Stephens of Olathe, KS; 4 daughters
& sons-in-law, Sharon & Darrell Culbertson of McAlester, OK, Joan &
Ken Gracey of Altus, OK, Karen & Gary Culbertson of McAlester, OK,
and Sonja & Don Hughes of Oklahoma City; 1 brother & sister-in-law,
Delmar & Viola Gibson of Oklahoma City; 9 grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was
preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Services are to be
held at Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel, 6201 N.W. 39th Expressway,
Bethany, OK 73008 at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 25, 2001 with burial at
Chapel Hill Cemetery on Northwest Expressway.
