Clothes Burned, Victim Dies
An elderly woman died Saturday night on arrival at Bethesda hospital
after her clothes had caught fire as she sat before a fire at her
Philo home. She was Miss Vadah Elizabeth Burns, 72, who had been an
invalid for several years. A cousin, Orla Savage, 72, who occupied
the same house, told Mayor Roy Robb of Philo, that he went to the coal
shed shortly after 5 o'clock and returned to fined Miss Burns' clothes
afire as she sat in a chare. He said he was burned slightly putting
out the flames with a coat. Mr. Savage carried her out of the house,
and she was moved to the hospital in a Henderson-Sharp ambulance after
being taken to the Robert Perry home. Miss Burns was a member of the
Philo United Brethren church and a life resident of Harrison township.
She leaves seven nieces and five nephews. Funeral services will be
held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Henderson-Sharp funeral
