Howard Monroe Dwyer went to be with his Lord Sunday, March 7, 2004. Howard was born in Quinlan, Oklahoma on January 18, 1919 to Thomas Arthur and Clara Ethel Dwyer. He grew up on his family's farm in Belva, Oklahoma and graduated from Quinlan High School in 1936. After graduation, Howard worked as a welder for Boeing in Wichita, KS. Shortly after moving to Wichita, Howard enlisted in the army. After basic training, Howard joined the 10th Mountain Division as a gunner in part of its newly formed heavy weapons division. Howard served in Italy during World War II, where he was awarded two bronze stars for bravery. Upon completion of his military service, Howard married Mary Harper on March 6, 1947. They lived in Quinlan where he worked on the railroad, as a blacksmith and was elected mayor of Quinlan in 1948. Howard and Mary started their family in 1948 with the birth of their first daughter Connie Sue. Kathy Lynn and Deanna Kaye soon followed and the family spent their early years in Waynoka, OK until 1955 when Howard convinced Mary that Colorado was the place for them. He worked for Sears for several years as a service repairman, and eventually purchased Barley's Refrigeration. He renamed the business Howard's Refrigeration, and was a successful businessman until he retired. Howard was a devoted husband, loving father, wonderful grandfather, happy pa pa and a true friend. He was an easy-going, patient, hard-working, generous man who took pride in his work. He will always be admired and remembered as a man with tremendous integrity who knew how to fix anything, always had time to lend a helping hand, cultivated a great garden and loved his family. We will miss him very much. Howard is preceded in death by both parents, his first wife Dorothy, two daughters Connie Ruckdeschel and Kathy Wells, two brothers Frank and Jerry, and two sisters Nita and Marvel. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary, his daughter Deanna, grandchildren Stormie, Garrett, Andrew, Lacey, Whitney and great- grandson Devon, and lots of other family and friends.
