FRED JERRY PUGH
RINER-Fred Jerry Pugh, 94, was called home February 12, 2002 by his Heavenly Father. He was born October 8, 1907 in Alum Ridge, the son of Elam and Ila Bishop Pugh. He married Gladys Reed on April 20, 1930, a union that lasted seventy-one years and ten months. He was a farmer in the community where he was born and worked over twenty yeas for A.S.C.S. out of Floyd. He was a long time member of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren serving as Sunday School Superintendent and on different committees as long as his health allowed. He was a care giver to his wife for more than ten years with a love and understanding greater than words can express. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ina Hudgins and Hazel Sutphin, brothers Peach and Dewey Pugh, four great grandchildren, Miranda, Brandon, Brendon and Devin Gray. Survivors include: his wife, Gladys Reed Pugh, Riner; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Freddie and Barbara Pugh, Floyd, Larry and Phyllis Pugh, Riner, Dale and Lois Pugh, Floyd, Reverend Michael Pugh, Roanoke; two brothers and sister-in-law, Ray Pugh, Bluefield, Don and Ira Pugh, Collinsville; eight grandchildren, eight great-children, one great-great-grandson; many nieces and nephews and a special nephew and friend, Hugh Dulaney. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2002 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Reverend Roy Turpin, Reverend Eli Yoder and Reverend Joe Cox officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Gideons or to a charity of ones choice. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home.
