Oakley and Mary Lilly celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 16, 1993. They were married in Christiansburg, Va., March 16, 1932. The couple lived in McCoy for 32 years and moved to Christiansburg in 1963. Their family includes: June and her husband, William "Buddy" McCoy, Blacksburg; Janet and her husband, Sam Knowles, Christiansburg; John W. Lilly, Christiansburg; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lilly is the former Mary E. Croy. Mr. Lilly is a retiree of....

Roanoke Times, Roanoke, Virginia, August 25, 2004 Oakley Ambrus Lilly, 94, of Christiansburg, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004 in Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born in Odd, West Virginia on May 18, 1910 to the late Owen Rife and Sadie "Kate" McCoy Lilly. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lotus Albert; brothers, J. Virgil Lilly and Noel David Lilly; a daughter, Janet L. Knowles and a son, Larry Deaton Lilly. Oak worked in and around the Coal Mines in McCoy for ten years and retired from Radford Army Ammunition Plant in in 1972 with 30 years of service. He was a member of McDaniel Lodge No. 86 AF&AM and Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons Taylor No. 70. Mr. Lilly was a Master Mason for 65 years. He was also a member of Kazim Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Roanoke, Va. He was also a member of Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), McCoy, and attended Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years. Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Mary Elizabeth Croy Lilly; daughter and son-in-law, June and W. S. "Buddy" McCoy of McCoy; son and daughter-in-law, John and Anita Lilly of Christiansburg; son-in-law, Sam Knowles of Christiansburg; grandchildren and spouses, Lee and Carrie McCoy, Leon and Betsy McCoy, Vanessa and Kenneth McCoy, Steve and Amy Knowles, Rebecca and Mark Matusevich, Susan and Dave Potts, and Michelle and Rob Muttart; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Oueda Jones of Longshop; brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Juanita Lilly of Pearisburg; sister-in-law, Lucille Lilly of Salem and many friends. The family would like to express their appreciation to caregivers, Carol Linkous, Nancy Puckett, and Cinda McCoy for their help and support. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, August 26, 2004 at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Kingrea, Mr. Jim Flaugher and Rev. Holly Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg where the McDaniel Lodge will perform Masonic Graveside Rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Mission School, 1 Hurley Street, Grundy, Va. 24614. Friends may call anytime after 12 noon Wednesday, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, S.W., Blacksburg.
