from Stearns Co. Historical Soc., November 26, 1997:
St. Cloud Journal-Press, St Cloud, Minnesota, Thurs., 21 February 1895, p. 1:
THREE SCORE AND TEN. Jno. Davis, a Pioneer of Rockville, Dies
Saturday, Aged 73 Years. A pioneer resident passed away in the
death Saturday in the town of Rockville of Mr. Jno. Davis. (sic)
He was 73 years old last October, and had lived in the township in
which he died for the past twenty-six years. Deceased was born in
Waldo county, Maine, near the city of Bangor. He leaves surviving
him a wife and four children, the latter all adults and all married.
The funeral was held Monday morning at 10 o'clock, the Rev. Carleton
F. Brown, Unitarian, officiating, the interment being in North Star
cemetery of this city. Mr. Davis was a well-to-do farmer,
prosperous and respected. His malady had kept him confined to his
bed for some months, and his death came as a release from his
sufferings. His demise is none the less sincerely mourned, however.
