Killed near Evergreen by Wilson Anderson, who reported Cale was riding a fractious horse which threw him and he was killed by the fall. Anderson was killed soon afterwards in a peach orchard, and although Cale's 1st cousin William Preston Longley was later arrested, convicted, and hanged for his murder, he denied it, though admitting other killings.
