War Vet Passes
LOWELL - Funeral services here held Thursday afternoon for Marion
Longley, 91, last Civil War veteran of Adams township, who died at
his home here Tuesday following a lingering illness. Rites were
conducted at the Spies funeral chapel by Rev O W Breuhaus and Rev
Frank Donaldson and burial was made in Greenlawn cemetery. He is
survived by one son, Judd, of this town. He was the son of Mr and
Mrs Samuel Longley and was a native of this township.
Marion Longley was the last Civil War Veteran in Washington Co., Ohio

Eva Lee Longley Kirkland, 83, of Chattanooga passed away Sunday,
Nov. 11, 2001. Mrs. Kirkland was a graduate of Ooltewah High School
and McKenzie Business College. She was employed by the Hamilton
County Agricultural Soil Conservation Office for many years and
later was a much-sought-after health care sitter. She and her
husband were active members of East Lake Baptist Church, where she
worked in the church kindergarten program and the Sunday School
Primary Department. She continued her membership with East Ridge
Baptist Church after the two churches merged. She was preceded in
death by her husband, H. Jewell Kirkland. Survivors are two sons,
Horace Kirkland of Chattanooga and Ed Kirkland of Milledgeville, Ga.;
one grandson, Lee Kirkland of Milledgeville; three granddaughters,
Kristina Kirkland of Knoxville, Brandi Kirkland of Kennesaw, Ga., and
Katy Kirkland of Milledgeville; three sisters, Dr. Gladys Dotson of
Rockford, Tenn., Bettye Jeane Knisley of Apison, Tenn., and Martha
Joyce Settle of Hixson; two brothers, Earl Longley and F.G. Longley
both of Apison. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at the
East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Ron Mitchell and
the Rev. Elwood Settle officiating. Burial will be in Plowman
Cemetery.

Winford (George) Myers, age 79 of Thayer, MO was born February 13,
1928 near Lesterville, MO and passed away January 5, 2008 at the
Ozarks Medical Center, West Plains, MO. Survivors include: his wife
of 41 years, Sharon Denton-Myers of the home; one son, Keith Myers
of Fairfax, VA; one grandson, A.J. Myers of Offutt Air Force Base,
NE; two brothers, Williford Myers of Arnold, MO, Acel Myers of
Desloge, MO; and numerous other relatives and friends. Preceding
him in death were his parents, James Franklin Myers and Ida Polify
Huitt-Myers, three sisters and one brother. George was member of
the Mammoth Spring, AR VFW, having served with the United States
Army during the occupation following World War II and was a member
of the Thayer, MO Masonic Lodge. Services will be 10am Tuesday,
January 8, 2008, in the Clary Funeral Home Chapel, Thayer, MO, with
Bro. Jimmy Lemons officiating. Visitation, with Masonic Rites, will
be Monday, 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home. Following the service,
the body will be cremated, under the direction of the Clary Funeral
Home, Thayer, MO.
