Bettie Rae Savage Bahn
Cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Bettie Rae Savage Bahn, 77, passed away on Friday, June 23, surrounded by her family, at the Hospice Care Center. Bettie fought a courageous short-lived battle with liver cancer. She was born at home in Akron on Sept. 11, 1928, to Earnest and Katherine Savage. As the youngest of three and the only daughter, Bettie brought such joy, happiness, and healing to her family. Bettie married Thomas Bahn on March 12, 1948. They are remembered by many as the "perfect couple, so much in love." They had been married for 58 years. Bettie was a full- time homemaker, a generous and loving mother, a devoted grandmother and great-grand-mother full of surprises! Mom's kindness and gentleness touched so many! Mom had such a sense of fashion in dress and in decorating her beautiful home. She was an incredible cook, a beautiful cross-stitcher, a storyteller and the family historian, and an energetic Christmas shopper. Her family nicknamed her Mrs. Claus because she loved Christmas so much. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Turner and Richard Savage. She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas "Tom" Bahn; daughter and son-in-law, Jeffrey and Becky Rexroad; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas "Tom" Ernest and Denise Bahn; son and daughter-in-law, William "Bill" and Kelly Bahn. Grandchildren include Katherine Rexroad Miller and her husband, Joshua, Jeffrey Thomas "Tom" Rexroad, Jeanie Elizabeth Rexroad, Turner William Bahn, Hilary Frances Bahn, Tanner William Bahn, Jordan Rae Bahn, and Evan Patrick Bahn. Her great-grandchildren were Riley Davis Bahn and Jessie Kate Miller. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the Hospice Care Center for their tender care and concern in mom's last hours. In lieu of flowers, the family would like for any donations to be made to the V.N.S. Hospice Center of Akron, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, Ohio 44333. Friends may call from 6 to 8 Sunday evening at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron, where funeral services will take place at 8 p.m. SUNDAY, with Rev. Benjamin J. Black III officiating. Interment at 10 a.m. Monday at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 330-867-4141.)
