Mrs. Bertha M. Stanley, 77, formerly of Zanesville, died early
Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dorotha Roth, 8988
Akron-Cleveland road, Northfield, after a long illness. A native
of Beverly, she was born Aug. 15, 1884, a daughter of Uriah and
Sarah Wilson and had lived in Zanesville 39 years until moving to
Cuyahoga Falls last April following the death of her husband,
Herman. She had been a member of the Beverly First Christian
Church. Mrs. Stanley is survived by a son, William D., of Canton;
the daughter, Mrs. Roth; eight grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren. The body is at the Clifford Funeral Home
in Cuyahoga Falls where friends are being received and where
services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in
Chestnut Hills Cemetery in that city.

Lee G. "Kooch" Carter, 90, of West Columbia, Texas passed away on
Sunday, August 24, 2003, in West Columbia, Texas. He was born
Friday, May 9, 1913, in Killeen, Texas. He was a member of First
English Lutheran Church, in Damon, Texas, and a lifetime member of
the Oddfellows and American Legion Post 503. Funeral services will
be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 28, 2003, at First English
Church in Damon, Texas, with Pastor Karen Davidson officiating.
Burial will follow at Columbia Cemetery in West Columbia, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Josephine Carter of West
Columbia; daughters & son-in-law, Lois & Travis Dorsett of West
Columbia and Susie Dorsett; grandchildren, Johnnie Dorsett of West
Columbia, Julie Dorsett of West Columbia and Sherrie Saavedra of
Richwood; great-grandchild, Crystal Saavedra of Richwood; and
numerous nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents,
Benjamin & Gertrude Carter; brothers, Ben, Russell, Curtis and Sam
Carter; sister, Maureen Winscott. Visitation was held between
4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at Baker
Funeral Home in West Columbia, Texas. Pallbearers will be Carter
Sturm, Charles Sturm, Wayne Carter, Victor Sturm, Gary Winscott and
Norman Winscott. Honorary Pallbearers will be the American Legion
Post 503. Memorial contributions may be made to the First English
Lutheran Church. Arrangements made by Baker Funeral Home in West
Columbia, Texas.

Heart Attack is Fatal to Railroader
New Lexington, O. - Danford H Savage, 53, veteran New York Central
Railroad employe, died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at his home, 554, West
Water street, a few minutes after suffering a heart attack. Mr.
Savage was born May 19, 1906, in Perry County, a son of Mrs.
Elizabeth Tracey Savage of Athens and James M. Savage, who died last
November. He was a member of the EUB Church here and had been
employed for the past 33 years by the railroad company, surving as
maintenace foreman at the time of his death. He had managed the
Little League baseball team here since its start. Surviving in
addition to his mother are his widow, Flora Belle; four sons, Munice
Savage of Toledo and Donald, Harold, and Dean and a daughter, Susan,
all of the home, and three sisters, Mrs. Donald McNulty of New
Lexington, Mrs. George Siniff of Junction City and Mrs. John Bagen of
Nelsonville. The body was removed to the C.L. Chute Funeral Home
here where friends may call after 7 this evening. Services will be
held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. David Davis
officiating. Burial will be in New Lexington Cemetery.
