Wilma Harrell Tisdale, 92, of Pittsburg, died at 10:10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at the home of her daughter. She was born Sept. 29, 1914, at Willis, Va., to Charles Wade and Lucy Elena Akers Knowles. She moved with her family to Kansas by wagon when she was a young girl. She graduated from Grenola High School. Following high school, she attended Emporia State University and graduated with a bachelor of science in education degree. Later, she received her master's degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She married Oscar Bayne "Tex" Harrell May 28, 1938. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1950. On Nov. 19, 1968, she married John William Tisdale. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1993. She worked for the Fort Worth Public School system, where she was a teacher for the blind and special education. She moved to Pittsburg 20 years ago from Fort Worth, Texas. She was of Methodist faith. Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Best of rural Pittsburg and Judy Bicknell of Pittsburg; a sister, Helen Flaharty of McCune; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, a brother, Herbert Knowles, and a son, Dr. Charles Bayne "Charlie" Harrell. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Brenner Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Ken Butts of the College Heights United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday to sign the register. Following the services, the body will be cremated and her cremains will be buried at a later date in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. Fourth St., Pittsburg.
