Hazel Mae Hitchens, age 86, died 10/30/99 in Tulsa, OK. She was
born 1/16/13 in Marlow, OK. Hazel was office manager for an
exterminating co. for several years, later owning Duncan
Exterminating Co. She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church for
65 years and taught Sunday School, especially the 3 year olds,
during those years. She was preceded in death by her husband of
65 years, Howard Richard Hitchins. Survivors include: her son,
David W. Hitchins & wife Charlene of Tulsa; daughter, Carole S.
Raulston & husband Ron of Tulsa; grandson, John D. Hitchins & wife
Terri of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Pamela L. Hitchins of Tulsa;
great grandson, Kyle Hitchins of Dallas; brother, William Overby
& wife Nita of Okc; several nieces & nephews, step grandsons & a
granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Olivet Baptist Church with interment at Rose
Hill Cemetery. Memorial gifts to: Olivet Baptist Church Scholarship
Fund or Hispanic Ministry. SMITH & KERNKE

... Ronald Corder, 14, son of Ralph and Ellen Hinkle Corder, of 16
Amazon Hill. Young Corder was a passenger in a pickup truck driven
by an uncle, Herbert Leroy Somers, 26, of Darlington, which was
struck by a Pennsylvania Railroad freight train at the Darlington
crossing at 10:25 a.m. Somers was injured in the crash and was
reported in fair condition at Good Samaritan Hospital. The Corder
youth, a pupil at Hancock Junior High School was instantly killed.
Coroner S S Daw said he suffered a fractured skull. Deputy Sheriff's
Joe Hildebrand and John Waston said the northbound pickup was struck
by the westbound freight enroute from Zanesville to ???. Deputies
were unable to ??? view Somers to determine if he had seen the train.
The uncle was thrown from the pickup by the impact of the crash, but
the boy was pinned in the wreckage which was carried some 86 feet down
the track and then plunged down a 60-foot embankment to the edge of
Jonathan Creek. It was 30 minutes before the wreckage could be
removed and the youth's body recovered. Somers was taken to the
hospital in a Bolin-Bryan ambulance. He suffered cuts about his
head and body and chest injuries. P.R. Miller was engineer of the
35-car freight and A. F. Riley of 832 Fountain square was conductor.
The crossing is marked but not equipped with flasher lights.
Surviving in addition to the parents are three brothers, Jack, Dale,
and Ralph Corder, of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Wills of
16-1/2 Amazon Hill and Miss Delores Corder of the home. and the
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Somers of Route 7 and Mr. and Mrs.
Hobart Hinkle of McConnelsville. Friends may call at the Putnam
Chapel of Bolin-Bryan Funeral home after 7 tonight. Services will
be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel with Captian Wesley Laws of
the Salvation Army officiating. Place of burial has not been selected.
