The Abilene Reporter-News, Abilene, Texas, Friday Morning, April 17, 1964, p8D
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Elliott's Chapel of
Memories for Mrs. Vicie Elizabeth Hawkins, 64, of Ovalo, who died
at 4:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Ann Hospital. Clarence Snodgrass,
Oak St. Church of Christ minister, will officiate. Burial will be
in Tuscola Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Weldon Bowman, Wayne
Bowman, John Bowman, James Lambert, Terry Lambert, and Dois Adkisson,
all nephews. Mrs. Hawkins had been ill three weeks and entered the
hospital Wednesday morning. Born Jan 4, 1900, at Cedar Gap, she
was a lifelong Taylor County resident, had lived in Ovalo since 1955
and was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are a daughter,
Mrs. Edward Lewallen of Ovalo; a son, Wayne C. Atkinson of
Seagoville; two brothers, Jerry Bowman of Tuscola, A. Jeff Bowman
of 2201 Palm; two sisters, Mrs. Vada Straley of 2049 N. 18th, Mrs.
J D Lambert of 618 No. San Jose; eight grandchildren

TUSCOLA, Feb 1 - Funeral will be held at the Cedar Gap Baptist church
Sunday at 2:30 p.m.m for Mrs. Virginia Dotson, 87. Burial will be
in the Cedar Gap cemetery beside the body of her husband, Campbell
Dotson, who died Jan. 5, 1925. Jenkins and Hodge, local funeral
directors, will be in charge. Mrs. Dotson was one fo the pioneer
settlers of the county, having resided in the community where she died
for 61 years. Mrs. Dotson had been in failing health several years
but had been ill only two days before she died Friday night. Mrs.
Dotson was born Oct, 28, 1853, in Virginia. She was married July
5, 1871. Her husband served three years during the Civil war. Mrs.
Dotson joined the church and was baptized when 14. She was the
mother of 11 children, seven of whom survive. They are Mrs. J. H.
Snodgrass, Tuscola; H. O. Dotson, Visalia, Calif.; Mrs. J. R. Baker,
Abilene; Mrs. G. W. Glaze, Tuscola; Mrs. R. M. Bowman, Wasco, Calif.,
and Dolphus Dotson, Abilene. In addition there are 49 grandchildren,
61 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. The
two California children will be unable to attend the funeral.
