SOMERSET - Hughie H. Grant, 68, of Somerset, a retired employe of
Kaiser Aluminum Company of Newark, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at
his home following an apparent heart attack. He was born Oct. 3,
1905, in Perry County. Surviving are his widow, the former Ruth
Watts; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Louise Dodgson of East Lake; two
brothers, Ned Grant of Crooksville and Franklin of Massillon; four
sisters, Mrs. Tovena Baker, Mrs. Rebecca Lacey and Mrs. Leota Barton,
all of Crooksville. Mrs.Eva Williams of new Lexington; three
grandchildren and six grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:30
p.m. Saturday in Thomas Funeral Home here. Burial will be in
Greenlawn Memory Garden at New Lexington. Friends may call anytime
after 7 p.m. today.

Hawk Eye, The (Burlington, IA) - March 7, 2006
Marty Bates, 42, of Welty, Okla., formerly of Burlington, died
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, in Tulsa, Okla. Born May 6, 1963,
in Iowa City, she was the daughter of Allen Leroy
and Lois Faye Gulick Savage. On Oct. 22, 1994, she married Mardell
Lynn Bates. Mrs. Bates was a homemaker. She grew up in Burlington
and lived in Columbus Junction before moving to the Welty area eight
years ago. She was an avid horse lover who enjoyed riding. She was a
member of the Quarter Horse Association. She loved dancing and liked
photography. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Adam Bates of
Tulsa and Robert Riley of Welty; three daughters, Misty Croteau of
Schulter, Okla., Angel Riley of Lone Tree and Makenzie Bates of
Welty; six grandchildren; her stepmother, Patsy Savage of Burlington;
one brother, Joe Savage of Burlington; and three sisters, Mary L.
Cratton of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Crystal Savage and Gail Savage,
both of Burlington. The funeral for Mrs. Bates will be at 6 p.m.
Thursday at Schumacher Funeral Home Chapel in Bristow, Okla.
