BRIDE HELD FOR SLAYING HUSBAND
Steubenville, O., Oct 31 (AP) - A 17-year-old bride of four months, who announced to police she had shot her husband with his souvenir pistol, was held today in the second slaying within a week in this town of 40,000. County Prosecutor C. J. Berknowski said Mrs. Phyllis Savage had signed a written confession describing the shooting last night of her husband, Homer Savage, 19-year-old navy veteran. Savage died in a hospital of two bullet wounds in his abdomen four hours after his wife ran into police headquarters and sobbed: "I just shot my husband. Here's the gun."

Wife Held for Murder to Enter Institution
Steubenville, O - (AP) - Mrs. Phyllis Savage, 17 year old bride who said she fatally shot her navy husband, Homer, 19, in their apartment last Oct 30 will be placed in a convent or a similar institution, her attorneys reported today. The action will be taken on recommendation of the Ohio bureau of juvenile research, which had custody of Mrs. Savage until yesterday when she was returned to the custody of her attorneys, Bruce and William Hart of Canton, O. Mrs. Savage contended she shot her husband in self defense after he had beaten her and attempted to strangle her in their bedroom.

ZANESVILLE - Edith "Lenora" Watts, 82, of Zanesville, formerly of Crooksville, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 9:03 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Helen Purcell Home. She was born on Oct. 14, 1924, in Zanesville. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Nettie Morrison Gibson. She graduated from South Zanesville High School and was formerly employed at the family-owned Troy Restaurant in Zanesville. She was a member of the South Zanesville United Methodist Church and had attended the First Methodist Church in Crooksville. She was a Born Again Christian by Faith. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 229 of Crooksville. Surviving are three children, Neddena (Mike) Young of Zanesville, Karla (Craig) Bankes of Zanesville and Brian Watts of Cambridge; four grandsons, Garrett Young, Jordan Young, Brandon Bankes and Braden Bankes; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Watts; two brothers, Carl Gibson and Russell Gibson; and two sisters, Louanna Shipley and Alice Perdue. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2007, at the William Thompson & Son Funeral Home, 5765 Gladstone Drive, White Cottage. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. John Dawson officiating. Burial will follow at Crooksville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helen Purcell Home, 1854 Norwood Blvd., Zanesville, OH 43701.
