Hire Alvin Mitchell was born Dec. 17, 1866 and died June 21, 1928,
aged 61 years, six months and four days. A native of Elkhart County,
he was the son of Jacob and Christianne Haney Hire of Ligonier, and
being one of nine children, five having preceded him in death. Two
brothers and one sister survive, James Alonzo Hire of Lake Wawasee,
Edward L. Hire of Noble County, and Mrs. Albert Garber of North
Webster, Ind. When fifteen years of age, he with his father and
mother, sisters and brothers, came to Noble County near the Whitley
County line to live, and in this community he spent his entire
life. On Dec. 19, 1886 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth
Swihart, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Jacob Swihart, also of Noble
County. To this union six children were born, Esta J. of Fort
Wayne, Mrs. Blanche H. Sanders of Warsaw, Mrs. Lucy H. Harlan of
Albion, Mrs. Rhoda B. Ridgley of Wolf Lake, Glenn J. of near
Churubusco, and Dorothy I. Peabody of Warsaw, Ind. He also leaves
ten grandchildren. He was a member of the Christian Church of

Hire Elizabeth, 91, formerly of Merriam, passed away in her sleep
at the home of a daughter in South Bend Jan. 22, 1958. Funeral
services were held at Merriam Christian Chapel with interment in
the Chapel Cemetery on Friday afternoon. Surviving are her six
children, E. J. Hire and Mrs. Rhoda Ridgley of Fort Wayne, Mrs.
Blanche Sanders of Warsaw, Glen J. of R. 1, Kimmell, Mrs. Dorothy
Peabody of R. 1, South Bend, and Mrs. Ross Harlan of R. 2, Albion;
15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. + 1-?-1958
