Private services for Dana C. Savage, 90, of 98 Fairfield Ave., will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Henderson, VanAtta and Johnston Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fred Homrighouse officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Savage died monday morning in his home. He was born in Lowell, Ohio, to Mr. and Mrs. George Savage. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, Lowell Lodge F&AM, Scottish Rite, Aladdin Temple Shrine and a former member of the Newark Kiwanis Club. He was the former owner of the Savage Paint Co., and was the former manager of the Horner Paint Co., His wife, Mary, died in 1967. Surviving are two sons; Dana Jr., of Dover and Ricard J. of Ann Arbor, Mich.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. There are no calling hours.

Edna Oliver, 96, of Nelsonville, passed away Monday, March 14th, 2005 at her residence. She was born October 19th, 1908 in Nelsonville, the daughter of the late Jess and Laura (Steenrod) Shafer. She was married to the late Oscar Oliver on February 14th, 1939. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19th, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street Nelsonville. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery. Edna Oliver, 96, of Nelsonville, passed away Monday, March 14th, 2005 at her residence. She was born October 19th, 1908 in Nelsonville, the daughter of the late Jess and Laura (Steenrod) Shafer. She was married to the late Oscar Oliver on February 14th, 1939. Edna worked for the William Brooks Shoe Company, was a reporter for the Nelsonville Tribune, and worked for the Columbus Citizen. She loved to travel, read, garden, and spend time with her family and grandchildren. She was a descendant of Daniel Nelson, founder of Nelsonville, and was a past member of the First Christian Church. She is survived by one son, Jerry (Judy) Oliver of Granville, two grandchildren, Ann Marie (Derek) Fisher of Mt. Vernon, Nathan (Aisha) Oliver of Lima, five great-grandchildren, Aisha, Isabella, Arianna, Connor, and Landon. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George L. and Tom Shafer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19th, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street Nelsonville. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery. KENNETT, Mo. -- Bertel James Alphin, 88, of Kennett died Saturday, Jan. 1, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett. Born at O'Kean, he became a minister in 1948, preaching and pastoring at churches in Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, California, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Indiana, Georgia, Missouri and Texas. Survivors include his wife, Nina Dunham Alphin of the home; one son, Eugene Alphin of Phoenix; three daughters, Joyce Morgan of Garden Grove, Calif., Jolene Howard of Indianapolis and Jeanette Hayhurst of Blue Eye; one brother, Bartes Alphin of Little Rock; 20 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Wilma Byrd; his parents, James and Clara Reed Alphin; one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Pentecostal Church at Walnut Ridge, with Denver Glenn officiating. Burial will follow in Austin Cemetery at Walnut Ridge under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
