Served A Co 122 Ohio Inf. Was captured 6/12/1864 at Cold Harbor and sent to Andersonville Prison.

On parole, he boarded the ill-fated Steamer General Lyon which left port Wednesday morning, March 29 1865 from Fortress Monroe and caught fire Friday morning March 31, 1865 and sunk off Cape Hatteras.

He is listed among those that didn't survive.

H.C. Longley Dies; Veteran Employe of Waterworks in City
Hugh C. Longley, 61, well known in the city through his long connection with the waterworks department, died at 8:30 o'clock Thursday evening at his home on Pioneer hill. He was suddenly stricken Tuesday morning and, although for a time it appeared that he was improving, his condition took a rapid turn for the worse Thursday. Mr. Longley was a lifelong resident of this city. For twenty years he had been superintendent of mains for the city waterworks department. He was a member of Centeral M. E. church. Surviving are his widow, Mary L.; two sons, Hugh W. and Edmond W., this city, and three daughters, Anna, Velma and Thelma, of the home. The body was taken to Mangold Funeral home.

Funeral services for Hugh C Longley, 61, superintendent of mains for the city waterworks department who died Thursday evening at this home on Pioneer hill, will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at Central M E church of which he was a member. Burial will be in Memorial park. Mr. Longley's death followed a brief illness resulting from a stroke sustained Tuesday morning. He was a lifelong resident of Zanesville and was for 20 years connected with the waterworks. Surviving are his widow, Mary L.; two sons, Hugh W. and Edmond W., this city, and three daughters, the Misses Anna, Velma and Thelma, of the home.
