There was an Egbert Longley who believed himself to be the son of slaveowner Robert Y Longley and slave Ann on the "Longley plantation" near Brownsville, Tennessee. Robert Y Longley did apparently have slaves (according to 1850 slave schedules) and was in Brownsville at the timeframe.

The only thing that doesn't fit is that Egbert declared his birthdate as 1837 (Robert would have only be 8 yrs old).... however.... 1863 Civil War muster rolls list Egberts birth year closer to 1847 and the 1870 census states 1851 - so maybe Egbert had overstated his age near the end of his life.
Egbert and his family became quite prominent in the Little Rock, Arkansas area with Egbert being a master carpenter, bricklayer, and property owner. The Longley Baptist Church in Little Rock was started by his family and is still in operation

I've included Egbert in the family and hope someday to correspond with his descendants. If there are any male LONGLEY descendents, it would be great to get them to participate in the Longley family DNA study to positively make the link.
