Zina Longley, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, in Borger. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Church of Borger with Pastor Shian Klassen officiatng. Interment will be in Hansford Cemetery in Spearman under the direction of Minton/ Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Longley was born on Nov. 19, 1929, in Dewey County, Okla. and lived in Texas for 40 years. She was a homemaker. She married Kenneth Longley on Nov. 21, 1938 in Arnett, Okla. and he preceded her in death in 2003. Zina is survived by two sons, Darrel Longley and wife Vera of Elizabeth, Colo. and Clifton Longley and wife Twila of Vici, Okla., a daughter Geneva Babitzke and husband Calvin of Borger, a sister-in-law Evelyn Dodd of Borger, five grandchildren, Brenda Daley of Parker, Colo., David Longley of Pahrump, Nev., Tracy Longley of Vici, Okla., Trevor Longley of Laverne, Okla., and Trampus Longley of Vici, Okla., eight greatgrandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Church, 1084 Coronado, Borger 79007. Casket bearers will be Tracy Longley, David Longley, Trampas Longley, Trevor Longley, Trebor Daley and Rocky Stone. TABLET TO MARK HISTORIC SPOT
Clairsville, O., Aug. 18 (INS) Recognition of this village as the birthplace of abolition of Slavery in America has been officially made by the state education department. It has been learned here with the announcement that a bronze tablet is to be placed, to the memory of the Negro. The tablet is to be placed, it was said, on the J. B. Longley home on East Main street, here, as a memorial to the memory of Benjamin Lundy. Lunday was the first man to advance a paper advocating the end of slavery, the cause of emancipation, and printed. This paper was printed in his home in St. Clairsville. In 1815 he organized the first anti-slavery society in America called the "Union Humane Society." The parlor of the Longley house served as the meeting place. Lundy later removed to Mt. Pleasant in Jefferson county and later to Baltimore, Md., where he became affiliated with William Lloyd Garrison in advancing the cause of freedom for the Negro.
