North Port Sun (FL) - June 9, 1999
Emma Shafer, 97, of Englewood, Fla., died June 6, 1999, at Englewood
Community Hospital. Born May 9, 1902, in Nelsonville, Ohio, she was
the last of 13 children of Edward Wylie and Athelia Butler Fisk,
early settlers in the coal fields of the Hocking Valley, where her
father was a business man and coal mine operator at the turn of the
century. Prior to retirement, she was a registered medical technician
and worked for Jenkins Medical Lab and Dr. Bauman of Clintonville,
Ohio. She was a member of OES University Chapter No. 462, Sigma Chi
Mother's Club, Women's 34th Curcillo weekend in Columbus, Ohio, and
St. David's Episcopal Church in Englewood. Preceded in death by her
husband, George Landon Shafer, she came to Englewood in 1990 to live
with her daughter and son-in-law. Survivors include her daughters,
Marilyn (Nick) Radosevich of Englewood, Nancy (Roger) Mann of Columbus;
son, Dan (Elaine) Shafer of Bellevue, Wash.; grandchildren, Debra (Jim)
Mitchell, Roger (Debbie) Mann, and Pam Soper, all of California,
Marcia (Ray) Rector, and Sarah (Chip) Copenhaver, all of Columbus, and
Lance (Lynn) Shafer of Washington; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Cole,
Bo and Tyler Copenhaver, and Ryan and Megan Rector, all of Columbus,
Rebecca, Landon, Jennifer Mann and Jessie Soper, all of California.
Services will be held June 20 at the Christian Church, Fort Street and
committal will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, York Township, Nelsonville,
Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. David's
Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 401 S. Broadway, Englewood, FL 34223.

Mrs. Mabel H. Ferrell, 77, former Adamsville road resident, died
at 5:10 p.m. Friday at Frame Nursing Home on Findley avenue where
she had been a patient for the past eight years. Born April 6,
1894, in Madison Township, Mrs. Ferrell was a daughter of Howard
and Elizabeth Adolph Adams. She was a lifelong resident here and
a member of Prospect United Methodist Church. She was widow of
Raymond A. Ferrell who died Dec. 8, 1963. Surviving are two sons,
Robert L. Ferrell of Route 5 and Donald D. of 901 Somers street; a
daughter, Mrs, Donald (Pauline) Lyons of Columbus; two sisters,
Mrs. Flora Beck of Indianapolis, Ind, and Miss Ruby Adams of
Cambridge; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends
may call at Shire Funeral Home at Adamsville from 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 p.m. Sunday.

RIDGEWAY - Chester E. Fish, 76, retired farmer of RR 1, Ridgeway,
died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday at home after a two month illness. A
resident of this vicinity 60 years, he had been a member of Logan
County Farm Bureau. Born April 19, 1892, in Putnam County, he was
a son of Frederick and Annie Kinney Fish. His wife, Zelma Harrod
Fish, died in 1956. He was a member of Big Springs United Methodist
Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Methel Creviston, and 2 sons,
Lester and Clarence of the rural Ridgeway address, and 13
grandchildren. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Mackey
Funeral Home in Mount Victory. Rev. M. R. Nicholson will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the
funeral home after 7 p.m. Thursday.
