Mrs. Rose A. Mattingly, 75 of 430 VanHorn avenue died at 4 p.m. Friday at Good Samaritan hospital where she had been a patient three weeks. A lifelong resident of Muskingum County, she was born June 20, 1887, the daughter of Jesse and Margaret Houlihan Melvin. Her husband, Leo Mattingly, die on Sept. 24, 1956. Prior to his death, they operated Matt's Tavern on Linden avenue, and for the past three years she had been employed as a housekeeper at St. Thomas Rectory. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Alter Rosary Society. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary) McNeely of the home and Mrs. L C Quinn of Pontiac Mich, one son, Bernard of 850 Wabash avenue, one brother, Edward melvin of Akron, three sisters, Mrs. Grace Luby of Columbus. Mrs. Cyril Albert of Lancaster and Mrs. Alice Cooper of Chandlersville road and eight grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Church with burial in Mattingly Settlement Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at Hillis Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Eileen (Shumaker) Blosser Watts, 87, formerly of Bremen, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008, at LanFair. She was a longtime member of Sigma Phi Gamma sorority, member and president of Business and Professional Women's Club, member of Fairfield County Women's Democratic Club, Lancaster Music Club, Ohio Association of Public School Employees, a secretary in the Lancaster City Schools for 26 years, and member of Fairfield Community Church. She was also an organist and played for Redeemer Lutheran Church and Christian Science Church. She was a graduate of Bremen High School, Class 1, in 1938, Lancaster Business College in 1940, and attended Capital University. She was also the manager of Hillcrest Apartments for 15 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Pearl and Clementine (McCandlish) Shumaker; and husbands, Dean D. Blosser and Joseph Watts. She is survived by daughter, Scherry Eileen Crowell; son-in-law, Gary Crowell; beloved grandson, Drew Justin Sherrick; and special friend, Darlene Erick. Cremation has been arranged by Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home. Graveside service will be conducted by Pastor Bill Brown at Forest Rose Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield Community Church, 860 E. Mulberry St., Lancaster. A big thanks to all the staff at LanFair and FairHoPe hospice.
