Jack Wilson of Vesta, Va. served in the United States Army Air Corp from August 20, 1941 and was Honorable Discharged December 28, 1945. He was a crew chief with the 68th Fighter Squadron of the 13th Air Force. He serves in the South Pacific with battles and campaigns in New Guinea, South Philippines, Luzon and Sumatra. He worn American Defense Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater with 4 Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Jack Wilson of Vesta died Saturday, December 6, 2003, at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was a World War II veteran who served in the Philippines. He was retired from Carbon Fuel Coal Company and Carver Career Center. Surviving are his wife, Agnes, and daughter, Pat, of Vesta; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Mike Sullivan of Charleston, W.Va.; son and daughter-in-law, J.R. and Barbara Wilson of South Charleston, W.Va.; daughter Jennifer Frisch of Marietta, Ga.; son Joe Wilson of Wake Forest, N.C.; and 13 grandchildren; his brother, Roy Knowles of Stuart; brother and sister-in-law Pat and Barbara Knowles of Meadows of Dan; and sister and brother-in-law, Albert and Kathleen Layman of Stuart. There will be no funeral, but a private memorial service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Vesta Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 238, Vesta, Va. 24177. Arrangements are by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
