An impressive affaire, not generally known to the large crowd which attended the exercises of the opening of the Zanesville-Marietta highway at McConnelsville Thursday afternoon, was a tribute paid to the memory of Court Savage, former well known local musician, who is buried in the McConnelsville cemetery. At the suggestion of Al C. White, secretary-treasurer of the Zanesville Rapid Transit, Inc, a former well known musician, members of the Zanesville Memorial Concert band went to the cemetery in the big bus and played the hymn. "Nearer My God to Thee" over the grave of their deceased comrade. Mr. Savage died in Zanesville in 1926 and the body was taken to his native town, McConnelsville, for burial. The deceased was one of the best cornet players in the state and was a member of the old Bauer band and at one time was the director of the old Seventh Regiment band. He was also formerly with the larger circuses in the country and was an actor of more than extraordinary abilty. The event was witnessed only by band members and a few intimate friends of the late musician who at one time was one of the best known and most popular men in southeastern Ohio.
