BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. -- Ralph W. Cassell, 80, North Pine Road, died Sunday (April 30, 2000), at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center, Columbia. Born Aug. 19, 1919, in Carroll County, Va., Mr. Cassell was a son of the late John Kemper and Mary Jane Bowman Cassell. A self-employed shoe repairman, he had retired from Fiber Industries in Salisbury, N.C. He was a member of Peace Haven Baptist Church, Yadkinville, N.C. but attended Victory Baptist Church, Columbia. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a member of Yadkin VFW Post 10346 in Yadkinville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Bently Cassell. Survivors include daughters Alice Cassell Mann and Martha Cassell, both of Blythewood; sisters Hassie Turner and Betty Jo Farris, both of Hillsville, Va., and Lucille Edwards, Dublin, Va.; six grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday,Gentry Funeral Home Chapel, Yadkinville, N.C., conducted by the Rev. Bruce Freeman and the Rev. Odell Chappell. Burial, Harmony Grove Friends Church cemetery, Yadkinville. Military rites by Yadkin VFWPost 10346. Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
