Notes:
death cert not found in Missouri
son of Henry D Tharp and Susanna Moots who were married 11 Dec 1825
at Logan Co., Ohio
his mother's obit.... (from Faith Stegon - thanks Faith!)
The Republican, Bloomfield, Iowa, May 16, 1895
Mrs. Susannah Tharp was born in Logan county, Ohio, September 7,
1801, and resided there until 1820, when she was married to Henry
Tharp. Ten children blessed this union, five of whom are living.
They are Mrs. Helen Speer, Leroy and Richard Tharp all of Greentop,
Missouri, Mrs. Jane Bridle of Moulton, Iowa, and Mrs. John Roland of
Bloomfield, Iowa. Uncle, Henry and Aunt Susie, as they were
familiarly called, moved from Ohio to Michigan, where they lived a
few years and then returned to Ohio. From there they came to Iowa
and settled in Davis county, near Savannah, where they lived a number
of years. They then sold their farm near Savannah and bought
property in Drakeville and from there went to Kansas, where Uncle
Henry died a number of years ago. At the time of Aunt Susie's death
she was with her son Leroy. She joined the Cumberland Presbyterian
church in 1849, and lived a faithful Christian ever since, until
April 20, 1895, when the blessed Master called her to rest. She
died of old age, being 93 years, 7 months and 15 days old. She was
bedfast only a few weeks, and her reasoning faculties were good.
She was a perfect model of patience and kindness through all her
sufferings. She passed away as calmly and quietly as though she was
falling into a gentle sleep. The funeral services were conducted by
Rev. Burris, at the M.E. church on the 21st, and notwithstanding the
torrents of rain the chapel was crowded, showing the love and respect
that was felt for the deceased. The remains were interred in the
beautiful cemetery of Greentop. A Friend.
