BARBOUR, Mabel Elizabeth Akers, 90, of Boones Mill, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 1, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, Coley Lee Barbour; her parents, Stephen Grover and Mary Etta Bryant Akers; brothers, Wolton Akers and Chess Akers; sisters, Violet Henry and Mary Plunkett; and grandsons, Ricky Lee Barbour and Dale Barbour. A member of First Baptist Church of Roanoke, she is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara B. Clingenpeel and husband, Walter of Boones Mill and Elizabeth Anne Davis and husband, J. W. of Asheboro, N.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, William G. (Billy) Barbour and wife, Beatrice of Glade Hill and Carey (C.L.) Barbour and wife, Margie of Collinsville; grandchildren, Robin Powell and husband, Bill, Jimmy Barbour and wife, Dreama, Sara Poindexter and husband, Roland, Donna Mathis, Chris Barbour, Cindy Lowe, Susan Davis and husband, Mark, Kevin Davis, Travis Davis, Annette Lucas and husband, Seth; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Hancock of Seagrove, N.C.; brothers, Stafford Akers of Rocky Mount, Carroll Akers of Salem and Woodrow Akers of Winter Garden, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Thomas, Patsy and Matthew Hubbard; and special neighbors, Simon and Ethel Gibson. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 4, 2003, 2 p.m. at the Lynch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Cockran officiating. Interment to follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Saturday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Special thanks to Dr.'s John Gambino and John Allen and to the nurses and staff of ICU, PCU and 8 East at Carilion Community Hospital.
