John Robert Arnold, 49, of Dresden was fatally injured Saturday in a
two-car collision on Frazeysburg road about four miles north of
Zanesville, the Highway Patrol said. Injured in the crash at 3:20
p.m. was Robert L Stotts, 19, of Boggs road Route 8. Arnold died at
5:24 p.m. of multiple injuries according to acting coroner. Dr. B. W.
Gilliotte. It was the 21st traffic fatality in the county this year,
compared to 12 for the same period in 1972. The patrol gave this
account of the accident. Stotts, southbound apparently lost control
of his car on a curve, slid to the right edge of the road and crossed
to the left where his car crashed into the northbound Arnold. The
patrol said Arnold attempted to swerve fromt he road but that his car
was struck and both vehicles ended up in a field. Stotts suffered a
possible fractured arm and multiple cuts and bruises. Both were taken
to Good Samaritan Medical Center by the Zanesville Ambulance Service.
Arnold was born Jan 27, 1924 near Adamsville a son of Mrs. Lillie
Shirer Arnold of Dresden and the late Leland Arnold. He was employed
as a foreman at the Armco Steel Company here and was enroute home when
the accident occurred. Surviving in addition to his mother are his
widow the former Bonnite Mattingly Arnold, a daughter, Brenda Arnold
of the home, two stepdaughters, Miss Sheryl Starner of 517-1/2 Downard
road and Mrs. terry (Becky) McInerney of Dresden, a step-son, John
Starner of Uniontown, Pa, a step-grandson, three sisters, Mrs. Robert
(Helen) Edwards of Fort Wayne, Ind. Mrs. Robert (Martha) Wright of
Farmington, Mich, and Mrs. Jack (Barbara) Foster of Coshocton and a
brother Lester Arnold of Coshocton. The body was taken to Baughman
and Sons Funeral Home at Dresden.
