Notes:
George enlisted in Co C, 30th Indiana Infantry 24 Sept 1861 with his
brother Joseph. Joseph was killed during the Battle of Shiloh, but
George survived and mustered out of the Army 29 Sept 1864. According
to his CW service record, George was absent during many of the
engagements after Shiloh.
Noble co records indicate they were married on 16 Oct 1864. George
swore it was 16 Oct 1862 - Margaret said Nov 1862. They further
stated that the courthouse records were destroyed in 1877 or 1878.
In 1925, the county clerk (Francis Beane) said that the record
clearly shows 1864, but the records aren't recorded sequentially
and it could have been a transcribing error. In 1927, the same
clerk says that all the dates are sequential and the date clearly
shows 1864 - he then created a 'certified copy' of the marriage
record showing the 1864 date. George and Margaret were married
by J.P Jonathan W Elliot (service years for Squire Elliot are not known).
I have a copy of George's Civil War pension file. A
listing of the documents and partial transcriptions can be found at

A listing of the cards found in his service record are at
