ZANESVILLE -- Robert "Nick" Nicholas Grotegeer Sr., 62, of Zanesville, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at his residence. Born Feb. 24, 1940, in Zanesville, he was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and employed as a supervisor at Anchor Glass Container Corporation. He enjoyed bowling, golf and NASCAR and served in the Navy during Vietnam. Surviving are his mother, Virginia R. Bollinger Grotegeer of Zanesville his wife, Phyllis A. Hunter Grotegeer of the home four children, Nick Jr. and Amy of Zanesville, Terri and Allen Gambrell of Columbus, Doug Grotegeer of Columbus and Linda and Jason Davis of Columbus three grandchildren, Jonathan, Haley and Samantha a special friend, Steve Schlagheck three sisters Ginny and Carl Gutridge of Nashport, Kay Dozer of Zanesville and Rita and Bob Wion of Zanesville and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman T. Grotegeer. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hillis Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave., with a celebration of Nick's life service at 7:30 p.m. conducted by family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Father James C. Csaszar as celebrant. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery with Navy Detachment to hold military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to The ALS: "Lou Gehrig's Disease" Association, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 150, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301-5104 and Genesis Hospice Morrison House 713 Forest Ave., Zanesville, OH 43701.
