KNOWLES, Shirley Parrish, 81, of Roanoke, died Thursday, December 3, 1998, in a Rocky Mount nursing home. She was born July 21, 1917, in Roanoke, Va., daughter of the late Alfred Leonard Parrish and Maggie Otelia Wood Parrish. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred L. Parrish, Jr. Shirley was a lifelong member of Waverly Place Baptist Church. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Roy E. Knowles; daughter, Opal K. Fulton, Roanoke; niece, Ann Parrish Burns, Nashville, Tenn. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 7, 1998, at Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Marvin E. Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
