CAMPBELL LONGLEY.
A Pioneer of Texas and the Oldest Mason in Texas.
Special to the News.
Lometa, Tex., Sept. 16 - Sunday at 12 noon that grand, good old
pioneer of Texas, Grandpa Campbell Longley, died. Campbell Longley
was 94 years old, was the oldest Mason in Texas. In the early days
of Texas he helped make a Mason of Col. Norten Moses of Lampasas,
who is now 84 years old. Campbell Longley was one of a company
raised in Tennessee to go to the relief of Gen. Sam Houston, and
this company, under Capt. Richardson, was on a forced march and
near Gen. Houston when the battle of San Jacinto was fought. After
the war with Mexico in 1836 Grandpa Longley settled first in Austin
County, where he lived many years, then he moved to Washington
County, where he lived about thirty years; afterward he lived many
years in Bell County. For the last fifteen years he has been living
in this (Lampasas) and Mills Counties with his children. He lived
to talk of Texas in the long ago, and of all the old Texans none were
more intelligent, interesting and entertaining. He was a life long
member of the Christian Church and organized the first church in
Austin County.

Ronnie Lee Pettit, four-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Elmer
Pettit, of Deitz lane, died at 1:30 Saturday morning in Bethesda
Hospital after a two-day illness of pneumonia. He had been taken
to the hospital by his parents Thursday morning. The child was
born Oct. 5, 1958 and in addition to the parents is survived by a
brother, Donnie Ray, of the home; the granparents, Mr and Mrs.
Kenneth Pettit of Roseville Route 2 and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Sohrenssen of Crooksville Route 1; great-grandparents, Herbert
newman of Roseville Route 2, Albert Pettit of Columbus and Mrs. Sarah
Sohrenssen of Crooksville. The body is at the Roseville chapel of
the Cannon and Cannon Funeral Home where services will be held at
2:30 p.m. Monday. Rev. E. C. Gordon of the Market Street Baptist
church will officiate and burial will follow in the Ebenezer
cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Mrs. Savage, 73, Taken By Death.
Mrs. Frances Savage, 73, widow of the late James (Jake) Savage, died
Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.D. Harmer of 2347
Maple avenue, after an illness of two years. Surviving are a son,
Dwight of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Walter Ogg of New Lexington,
and Mrs. Harmer; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Kopp of Tiffin; two grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren. A former resident of McLuney, Perry
county, Mrs. Savage was a member of the Iliff church there. The body
will be taken this evening to the Harmer residence, and will be
returned Thursday morning to the Cannon & Cannon funeral home,
Roseville. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Thursday
afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. W. E. Buchholtz of the St. Paul
Lutheran church officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery.
