AUSTIN E. CASSELL
Austin Elmer Cassell, 68, of Collinsville, died Wednesday, December 13, 2000, at his home. He was born March 3, 1932, in Patrick County, and was a son of the late Elder Edgar and Maggie Knowles Cassell. He was the owner and operator of Elmer Cassell's Garage for 24 years and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Tootsie Smith Cassell of the home; three daughters, Carolyn Pereira of Tallahassee, Fla., Cheryl Gandy of Surfside Beach, S.C., and Robin Hartley of Collinsville; two brothers, James Cassell of Meadows of Dan and Pastor Frederick Cassell of Hillsville; four sisters, Lessie Thomas of Seaford, Dovie Legus of Richmond, Frances Hines of Birmingham, Ala., and Goldie "Tootsie" Pilson of Vesta; one granddaughter; two grandsons; three stepgrandsons; one stepgranddaughter and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held Friday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home. Pastor Frederick Cassell officiated. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park. Pallbearers were Edd Whitlow, Charlie Ferguson, Johnny Arnold, Randy Hiatt, Wayne Fulcher, Doug Prillaman, Troy Brammer, Ricky Hartis, Gary Parcell, Lewis Joyce and Bill Harris.

Notes:

occasionally enumerated as Langley or Langly, but his children's death certificates enumerate him as Longley. His son Robert's CW pension file is very clearly Longley, and all his descendents go by Longley.

other researchers confuse him with the William Langley and Elizabeth Cochran family that was in Muskingum County from the first half of the 19th century. But he is decidedly a son of George Longley and Grace Savage based on census appearances, and CW pension interaction between his children and their cousins.
