Carl V. DeHart, 87, of Danville, died Friday, December 19, 2003, at
Roman Eagle Memorial Home where he had been a resident since March
2002. He was born October 7, 1916 in Meadows of Dan and was a son
of the late Daniel Conner DeHart and Annie Alderman DeHart. He was
also preceded in death by his first wife, Clarice Soyars DeHart; five
sisters, Ethel D. Fisher, Grace D. Eanes, Mae D. Snead, Vadie D.
Frazier and Edna D. Bailey; and a brother, Benjamin DeHart. He
served in the U.S. Navy in World War II on the U.S.S. Tacloban
Patrol Gunner 22 in the Philippines and Okinawa. He received the
Asiatic-Pacific American Theater Service Ribbon and the World War
II Victory Ribbon. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church where
he had served as a deacon and as the superintendent of Sunday
schools. He had perfect attendance at Sunday school for 39 years. He
retired in 1981 as co-owner and operator of DeHart Brothers Lumber
Company. Surviving are his wife, Nan Eva DeHart of the home; one
son, Danny DeHart of Danville; one daughter, Linda D. King of
Fredricksburg; one sister, Violet D. Holley of Danville; two
brothers, G.D. DeHart and Esley "Pete" DeHart, both of Danville; four
grandchildren and two great-grandsons. The funeral was conducted
Sunday at Sharon Baptist Church by the Rev. Allen Holder. Burial,
with military honors by American Legion Post #325, was in Danville
Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Alzheimers Association (Central and Western Virginia), 2728 Colonial
Ave., SW, Suite 2, Roanoke, Va. 24015. Arrangements were by
Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home in Danville.

HEDRICK - Raymond Arthur Watts, 80, formerly of Packwood, died
May 20, 2005, at the Sigourney Care Center. He was born Jan. 4,
1925 Jefferson County to Maurice Otto and Ora Jane Burns Watts.
He attended Bonnett School, Birmingham and Spencer School, Stockport.
He lived in the Packwood community until moving to Hedrick in 1986.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March 1945 -
Nov. 1946 and from 1948-1951. He worked for cattle farmers in the
Packwood area, worked for Dickey Transport and worked for Tom
Brown's Conoco, Packwood. He was preceded in death by his parents;
five brothers, Harold, John, Walter, Maurice and Charles Watts; and
two sisters, Ruth Thomas and Gladys E. Coffin. Funeral services will
be 10 a.m. Monday at Raymond Funeral Home, Fairfield with the Rev.
Jack Jackson officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery,
Fairfield. No scheduled visitation is planned. Memorials may be
made to the Diabetic Association.
