Verna M. Knowles, 90, of Roanoke, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 18, 2008. She was born August 31, 1917. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Oliver Knowles; her parents, James David Morgan and Mary Alice Hurt Morgan; and her brother, Harrison Morgan. She is survived by her sister, Nannie M. Geary, of Roanoke; brother-in-law, Ralph Knowles and his wife, Margaret, of Ridgeway, Va.; brother-in-law, Fred Knowles and his wife, Elise, of Boones Mill; and many nieces and nephews. She was a long time member of Waverly Place Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Reed Ness officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements by Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel.
