Mr. Elmer Lee Sehen, 69, of Meadows of Dan, passed away Monday, February 25, 2008 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Patrick County on July 24, 1938 to the late Bert Sehen and Faye VanSutphen Sehen. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sehen was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey and Wesley Sehen, and an infant sister. Mr. Sehen retired from the United States Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant, and had retired from the City of Danville at the Talbort Dam in Patrick County. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of VFW Post 8467 in Meadows of Dan. Mr. Sehen is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shelma Joan Garrett Sehen, of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Mark Clarke of Richmond, Rhonda and David Hughes of Bassett, Sonja and Allen Richards of Boones Mill, and Erica and Michael Sleboda of Roanoke; twelve grandchildren, Ezra, Moriah, Hannah, Sarah, Lucas, Cole, Isaiah, Micah, Judah, Jon, Jacob and Mikey; one great-grandson, Bryson; three sisters, Eleanor Young of Collinsville, Shirley Lott of Vesta and Hazel Martin of Bassett; and two brothers, Carl Sehen of Meadows of Dan and John Sehen of Dobson, North Carolina. Funeral services for Mr. Sehen will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Shockley officiating. Burial will follow in the Knowles-Eden Cemetery, with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8p.m. at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Fund, 2511 JEB Stuart Hwy., Meadows of Dan, Virginia 24120.
