A Hard Case
We are informed that a former citizen of this county, G. W. Longley, who for
some time past has been residing at Napleon near Memphis, Tennessee, has
been made to flee from that state, and arrived at the house of his brother
in Muskingum county a few days ago. Up to the time of the outbreak of the
difficulty, he was in very prosperous circumstances, but when the secession
sentiment began to spread, he was desired to enlist for the Confederate
army, but refusing to do so, being unwilling to take up arms against his
country, he was obliged to leave at a moments warning without the means to
meet his traveling expenses. He accordingly traveled on foot until his
feet became almost worn out. When he arrived in this county he was
suffering terribly, from sore feet. We hope to learn the particulars from
Mr. Longley himself in a few days.
