Edith Longley Barthel
Memorial services were held for Edith (Longley) Barthel, 78, on Saturday, May 28, 1994, at Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home, Warrensburg, Mo., with burial in Springfield, Mo. She was born in Drumright, OK, July 29, 1915, the daughter of George and Lenora Longley, former residents of the Covington area. She moved with her parents at an early age to the Covington Garber oil field, later moving to Covington, where she graduated from the Covington High School in 1933. She was an employee of Wehmier's and the Covington Record. After moving to Enid where she worked for KCRC radio station, she met and married Alfred Barthel on October 1, 1950 After Alfred's retirement from the U.S. Air Force, they retired to Warrensburg, Mo. He preceded her in death on September 27, 1977. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Warrensburg, a volunteer at the Senior Center for 17 years, being selected senior citizen of the year in 1990. Survivors include one sister Ethel Kohfield of Alamo, California; three brothers, Harold Longley, Bend Oregon, Leonard Longley, Oklahoma City, OK., Robert Longley, McLoud, OK, and numerous neices and nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her sister, Margaret Shombers.
