Eddie Leavitt, age 60, of Independence, MO (formerly of Kearney, MO) passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2003 at home. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, at the Fry Funeral Home. Cremation. Friends may call 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to National Sprint Car Hall of Fame or Eddie Leavitt Memorial Fund, c/o the Family, P.O. Box 235, Kearney, MO 64060. Eddie was born on December 24, 1942 in Fairmount, MO. He was a veteran sprint car driver and owner of Leavitt Propane. Eddie was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2001 and was in the Knoxville Raceway Hall of Fame. He was a 2-time National Sprint Car Champion and loved fishing. He attended Grain Valley High School and graduated with his Associates Degree from Wentworth Military Academy. He was preceded in death by his parents Astor & Letha (Howell) Leavitt and his wife, Judi Leavitt. Survivors include daughter Mary, husband Greg Saunders and children, Nick & Kristen of Kearney, MO; daughter Vicki, husband Steve Agan and children, Sarah & Brad of Knoxville, IA; son Eddie "Butch", wife Amy Leavitt and children, Ryan & Maggie Knoxville, IA; fiancee and caregiver, Martha Paul, of Independence, MO; sister, Janice Selvey, of Grain Valley, MO.
