ZANESVILLE -- Esther May Mercer, 77, of Zanesville, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at Genesis Good Samaritan Medical Center. She was born Feb. 21, 1929, in Zanesville. She was formerly employed by Modern Cleaners. Mrs. Mercer was a member of Market Street Baptist Church, Esther Circle, Marine Corps League Auxiliary, TOPS Ohio 496, DAR and one of the founders of Monroe St. School Reunion. Surviving are two sons, Robert A. (Dorothy) Mercer Jr. of Zanesville and Donald A. (Sue) Mercer of Zanesville; one daughter, Pamela (Roy) Montgomery of Zanesville; one brother, Thomas (Pat) McGrath Jr. of Zanesville; three sisters, Catherine McGrath Barker of West Virginia, Mildred Kelso of Zanesville and Carolyn (Roger) Baughman of Zanesville; 11 grandchildren, Christopher, Norman and Scott Middy, Matthew and Michael Mercer, Donald Mercer Jr., Kimberly Bailey, Martin Mercer Jr., Amber Mercer, Timothy and Amy Stone; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; aunt and best friend, Bernice Hyett of Zanesville; and sister-in-law, Patricia Fuller of Zanesville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mabel Lighthizer McGrath; husband, Robert A. Mercer Sr.; son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Candy Mercer; three sisters, Clara Weaver, Lula McHenry and infant sister, Betty McGrath; and two great-grandsons, David and Drake. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 14, at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, 56 S. Fifth St. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at the funeral home, with Pastor Scott Johnston officiating. burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Following services, family and friends are invited for lunch and fellowship at the American Legion Post 29, 27 S. Third St.
