James L. Gibson, Pioneer of the Cherokee Strip, Dies at Age of 92
Jim L. Gibson, a pioneer of the Cherokee Strip and resident of Ames community for many years, passed away at his home here Thursday morning following an illness of six weeks. He was 92 years old. Funeral services were held at Lacy Methodist Church at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Interment was made in the nearby Cimarron Valley Cemetery.

MEADOWS OF DAN -- Myrtle Jewell Puckett Boyd, 86, of Meadows of Dan, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at RJR Patrick County Hospital. She was born on April 14, 1919, to Samuel Puckett and Dora Cochran Puckett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Saul Boyd; and a son, Wendell Q. Boyd. She attended Vesta Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving are a daughter, Loretta M. Carroll of Meadows of Dan; two sons, Leroy Vernon Boyd of Norfolk and Homer E. Boyd of Meadows of Dan; two sisters, Thelma Lewis of Martinsville and Nellie Barnard of Meadows of Dan; three brothers, Charlie Puckett of Stuart, Leonard Puckett of Chesterfield County and Otis Puckett of Meadows of Dan; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home chapel with Pastor John Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Knowles-Eden cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
