Herman Begeot
Hubbard - Funeral services were held Monday, June 23 at the Clyde R
Kelly and Son Funeral Home for Herman Begeot, 28, of 374 Jerry Dr.,
who died at South Side Hospital of injuries received May 26 when his
motorcycle collided with a car on Route 18 at Turner Rd. Mr. Begeot
was born Dec. 18, 1940, in Masury, a son of Herman F. and Alma Longley
Begeot. He was a member of Central Christian Church and Musicians Local
86. He was a construction surveyor for Joseph Bucheit and Sons Co.
Survivors include his parents of Hubbard, his wife, the former Diane
Hill, whom he married Oct. 6, 1960; two sons, Herman and Douglas,
Tammy and Lynne, all at home; five sisters, Mrs. Beverly Dull of Girard,
Mrs. Alma Jessup, Mrs. Hermine Bohrer, Bobby Jean Begeot and Delores
Mae Begeot and two brothers, Charles and Rovert, all of Hubbard.

SPANGLER, Benjamin Lesley, 73, of Vesta, died Sunday, December 1,
1996, in Patrick County Memorial Hospital. He was a U.S. Army veteran
of World War II, and was awarded a Bronze Star for participating with
his squadron in the landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy on VE Day. He
also was awarded The European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon
with four other Bronze Stars, and the Purple Heart medal for his
participation in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Spangler was one of a
team of 16 at the U.S. Army Mobility Equipment Research and
Development Center at Fort Belvoir responsible for developing the
U.S. Tactical Floating Bridge. He was a 40-year resident of
Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia, where he worked for the
federal government at the Engineer Research and Development
Laboratory at Fort Belvoir. He was a member of Meadows of Dan Ruritan
Club, Vesta Rescue Squad and VFW Post #8467, and a 60-year member of
Meadows of Dan Baptist Church. He was born in Patrick County on
April 16, 1923, to the late Charles (''Tump"") Spangler and the late
Kittie Cockram Spangler. He also was preceded in death by a brother,
Tom Spangler. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Handy Spangler, who
was his teenage sweetheart; two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Bohning of
Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Vicki Perry of Lebanon, Ohio; four
grandchildren, Chris Satchel, and Mark, Tracy and Jennifer Bohning;
one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Young of Greenwood, S.C., and four brothers,
Maurice Spangler of Bristol, Tenn., Harvie Spangler of Ruckersville,
Bishop Spangler of San Diego, Calif., and Pat Spangler of
Gainesville, Fla. Funeral services for Mr. Spangler will be at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, December 4, 1996, at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church,
conducted by the Rev. Jack Holland and the Rev. Clarence Marshall.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The flag will be presented
to Mrs. Spangler by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
The family will be receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at
Meadows of Dan Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests that memorial donations be made to Vesta Rescue Squad or the
Spangler Family Cemetery. Arrangements are by Moody Funeral Services
in Stuart.
