Girl Twists Skirt into Death Noose
Mildred Lighthizer Ends Life in Basement of Sister's Home on Zane Street
A 19-year-old girl, said to be worried over ill health, made a rope from an old skirt, fastened it about her neck, tied the other end to a basement rafter, and leaped fro a box to commit suicide Friday morning at the home of her sister on Zane street. She was Miss Mildred Lucille Lighthizer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Judson Lighthizer, 622 Zane street, The suicide took place in the basement at the home of her sister, Mrs. Mabel McGrath, who lives at 624 Zane street, in the same duplex residence with her parents. Her body was found suspended from the rafter late Friday morning. The girl had been dead for only a short time. She had torn a skirt into strips to make the rope with which to hang herself. Coroner H. T. Glaser, who viewed the body, said it was obviously a case of suicide. Poor health was blamed by the family, members of which said the girl had given no indication that she intended to end her life. She was one of six children. According to her parents, the girl had gone into the other half of the house to visit her sister about 8:30 o'clock. Mrs. McGrath, the sister, did not notice her enter the basement and supposed she had returned home. It was almost two hours later that the father discovered the tragedy. Miss Lighthizer was a member of the First Church of Christ. Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Judson Lighthizer of the home; two brothers, Samuel Lighthizer, 843 Zane street, and Judson Lee of the home, three sisters, Miss Lulu and Miss Bernice Mae Lighthizer of the home, and Mrs. McGrath. The body is at the Keck funeral home.
